With Pets

Pets (particularly cats and dogs) may have been the family's 'centre of attention' prior to Baby's arrival. With Baby's presence, such pets can feel 'left out'. So, gradually introduce them to Baby, and give lots of praise for 'good' behaviour! Yet despite your efforts in trying to ease the pet/s into a new family situation with Baby, animals' behaviour can be very unpredictable.

To keep Baby safe:

• Make sure Baby is not alone with pets.
• Keep pets away from Baby's sleeping space.
• When out walking with Baby and the dog, never attach the lead to the pram. Some dogs are very strong, and if startled and run, the pram can be dragged.
